via City RagThe other day we were sitting around Celebrity Hack HQ wondering how we could get some free publicity. And I said, “Hey, let’s check out that Imus guy, he’s getting all sorts of attention!†Cuz I’m smart like that.
In case you’ve been in a deep freezer for the last week, Don Imus has gotten himself in all sorts of trouble by referring to the Rutgers women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hos” in a fairly retarded exchange on his morning show. And if you’re in the “there’s no such thing as bad publicity†camp, consider this:
- The black community immediately called for his resignation
- Imus had to grovel on Al Sharpton’s show and apologize profusely
- He was suspended for two weeks
- His advertisers bailed out
- MSNBC terminated his television simulcast
- Today he was fired from CBS Radio and is officially off the air
Wow… that doesn’t seem like a good deal after all. And what’s worse, racially-based insults mixed with character assassination in the name of a lame joke is tougher than it looks. Take the headline of this post for example. We won’t get any publicity for this crap, because not only is Imus pasty-faced, but he’s also an admitted alcoholic in recovery.
Insulting people with verifiable facts is a waste of time. You can’t even score a cease and desist letter out of verifiable facts, except maybe from Paris Hilton’s lawyers.
