And who can blame them? Germany has seen enough crazy in the last 100 years, thank you very much.
“[Filmmakers] will not be allowed to film at German military sites if Count Stauffenberg is played by Tom Cruise, who has publicly professed to being a member of the Scientology cult,” Kammerbauer is quoted as saying.
Here’s the real scoop, people. Cruise was spotted by German officials with a tuft of hair above his lip that made him look exactly like Hitler. At that point, Cruise had a choice—bow out gracefully or admit it was David Beckham’s pubic hair. What would Xenu do?

No actually it’s b/c the Germans believe heavily in post-partem depression and like Brooke Shields.
I hear the real reason is a mundane visa problem that’s not so dramatic a reason as Scientology.
According to the German Embassy:
“The German government considers the Scientology organization a commercial enterprise with a history of taking advantage of vulnerable individuals and an extreme dislike of any criticism. The government is also concerned that the organization’s totalitarian structure and methods may pose a risk to Germany’s democratic society.”
